Are you prepared?
Are you prepared? I'm sure you're asking yourself, 'prepared for what?' Honestly, it's best to ask yourself, 'what am I unprepared for?' Life is full of the unexpected, unanticipated, unplanned moments that take us by surprise and have us scrambling for logical reasons as to why this moment has presented itself. Such moments occasionally arise, so that we can place more attention and focus on something that we may have neglected or failed to address. Therefore, it's always best to seek balance as much as possible to prepare for the unexpected moments that arise in both, our personal and professional lives. We are constantly reminded that the baby boomers are retiring in great numbers now, which is leaving a huge knowledge gap in many organizations. Quality customer service is almost a thing of the past. There are pros and cons to this situation, IF you are prepared! Have you prepared yourself by attaining the skills, knowledge, education, training and information needed to fill those large shoes that are now vacant? Are you prepared to make the necessary sacrifices needed to rise to the next level? Everything that is worth anything requires sacrifice and it is attained at a price. Are you willing to pay that price? Many things look simple and easy from the outside. It's just like watching a professional sports event. It's very easy to be the 'couch coach' or quarterback in front of the HD plasma screen; however, could you execute that well on the field without the view that you currently have? Are you willing to put in hours of prep work? Training? Show up for mini-camp? Study films? Attend bootcamp? Workout at the gym for several times a day? Eat a healthier diet and deny yourself those high-calorie treats? Many people cannot make that level of commitment; therefore, it's best that they remain where they are. Many companies aren't positioning themselves to backfill all of their job vacancies, so expect smaller staffs and more streamlining of operations. Be prepared by remaining marketable! Obtain more job skills or increase your level of expertise in your chosen field. By all means, enjoy your summer, but don't lose focus. Develop a plan and execute it. Be a visionary and stay prepared! PM
