Give yourself the best gift!
The holidays are over and it’s time to get back to business, but you find that you still have the same old feelings about going to work. Why is that and what do you plan to do about it? Now that you have shopped and given gifts to everyone else, maybe it’s time for you to give yourself the best gift ever…a new job! If you feel disconnected, unmotivated, disinterested, moody with your colleagues and find that job tasks take forever for you to complete and you are just going through the motions…it is time to look for a job that is a better fit for you! You don’t have to spend another year being disgruntled. It impacts your mind and physical health and it is not a fun day for your colleagues, either. Today is a good time to dust off your resume, review and update it with your new skills, knowledge and abilities. Find a professional with an objective opinion to give your resume a second glance and to make recommendations. Start searching the job boards to see what’s available. Many baby-boomers used the end of the year as an opportunity to finish up their careers and retire. Most companies and agencies are not backfilling jobs on a 1:1 ratio, but there are some positions available. Just keep in mind that the next job may not appear overnight. Be patient, because you don’t want to end up in the same situation. Be very discerning and ask yourself what type of job will allow you to use your strengths and grow in other areas? While gift giving, don’t forget to give the most important gift to yourself. Take advantage of this New Year by forging ahead with securing a new job and career, as well. Best wishes in your search!
